A delicate, luxury mushroom also known as Veiled Lady or bamboo pith. It’s prized in high-end Asian cuisine for its elegant appearance and mild flavor. The mushroom has a lace-like veil when fresh (as seen on one specimen in the image). Culinary: Soak until soft; often used in Chinese hot pots, stir-fries, or soups for its unique texture (slightly crunchy and elastic). It readily soaks up flavors from braising liquids. Chef usage: Because of its striking look, chefs sometimes stuff bamboo fungus with forcemeat or sticky rice and steam it, showcasing the netted pattern as a visual highlight. Note: This is a conversation starter on any menu due to its rarity and exotic form.
