Black Boletus (Phlebopus portentosus) is a close relative of true porcini — with a similar meaty, umami-rich profile, but its own distinct taste and character. Slightly earthier, a touch bolder, and less nutty than Boletus edulis, this is a bolete that stands proudly on its own. It is one of the very few boletes ever brought under commercial cultivation, and Crown Fungi is the exclusive US distributor of this cultivated species — dark brown to nearly black caps, robust bulbous stems, and dense, chef-grade flesh. Not porcini. A porcini cousin with a personality of its own.

Sold fresh only, by the pound. Harvested and shipped for immediate use. Ideal for risotto, pasta, sauces, sautés, and fine-dining plating. Lab-grown and farm cultivated — never wild-foraged.
