Yellow Boletus (Buchwaldoboletus xylophilus) is a close relative of true porcini — sharing that meaty, umami-rich bolete character, but with its own distinct taste: brighter, a touch more delicate, and subtly nutty in its own right. Similar to porcini, but definitely not the same. It is one of the very few boletes ever brought under commercial cultivation, and Crown Fungi is the exclusive US distributor of this cultivated species — fresh, chef-grade, with brown caps, yellow-staining stems, and a classic pore surface. Not Boletus edulis. A porcini cousin with a culinary identity all its own.
Sold fresh only, by the pound. Harvested and shipped for immediate use. Ideal for risottos, reductions, braises, and stock work where meaty texture and structural integrity matter.
Why chefs choose Crown Fungi’s cultivated Yellow Boletus:
• Consistent size, grade, and moisture — every harvest
• Year-round availability, no dependence on wild seasons
• Species-verified at source — no misidentification risk
• Traceable, food-safe cultivation with documented handling
Lab-grown and farm cultivated — never wild-foraged.
